Changing the Narrative
Changing the Narrative: The Story, I Told Myself: The Truth I Now Live
There was a time in my life when I couldn’t even look at my own reflection. I’d avoid mirrors, turning away from the woman staring back at me, because the truth was - I hated her. Not just for how she looked, but for what I believed she represented.
Every insult, every judgment, every cruel word that had ever been spoken to me played on repeat in my mind. I carried them like heavy stones, weighed down by the opinions of others who told me I wasn’t enough. I had spent years barely surviving as a solo mum, feeling like life was always against me, like no matter how hard I tried, something always went wrong.
I kept attracting the same toxic relationships. The same struggles. The same pain. And the worst part? A part of me believed I deserved it. I had no idea that the words running through my mind weren’t mine. That the narrative I was living wasn’t my own. I was simply repeating the story I had been told my whole life - the one that kept me small, depleted, and stuck.
Then one day, something inside me cracked.
I had reached a breaking point, and I knew I had two choices: continue living in the same cycle or rewrite my story.
Rewiring My Mind: The First Step Toward Change
At first, I didn’t know how. My inner critic had been my constant companion for so long that I didn’t even know what my own voice sounded like.
But I started small.
I started talking back to my thoughts.
I started disrupting the loop of self-hate.
I started telling myself the opposite of whatever my mind tried to convince me was true.
When my mind whispered, “You’re not good enough,” I forced myself to say, “I am learning, I am growing, I am enough.”
When it screamed, “You’ll never get through this,” I reminded myself, “I have survived everything life has thrown at me - I will survive this too.”
When I felt like life was against me, I told myself, “The universe is guiding me, not punishing me.”
At first, I didn’t believe it. But I kept going. Because what we focus on, we strengthen.
The Power of Our Inner Dialogue
That was 15 years ago. And now?
Now, I teach others what I’ve learned - because I know, with absolute certainty, that the words we tell ourselves shape everything.
I’ve spent years studying the subconscious mind, emotional intelligence, and hypnotherapy, and I can confidently say that our internal dialogue is the foundation of everything we experience externally.
For most of my life, I was unknowingly living by the beliefs of others. I carried their judgments, their limitations, their fears as if they were my own.
But the moment I realised I could change my thoughts, everything shifted.
And that shift wasn’t just mental - it was physical.
Reprogramming the Mind: How I Changed My Reality
The mind is like a hard drive - it plays the programs it’s been given until we decide to rewrite them.
I started with small, daily actions:
Awareness – Noticing the thoughts that played in my head every day.
Flipping the Script – Replacing each limiting belief with an empowering one.
Repetition – Seeing affirmations daily, whether written on my mirror, in a journal, or as reminders on my phone.
Feeling It in My Body – Practicing embodiment, because confidence isn’t just a thought - it’s something you step into.
Slowly, the version of me I once avoided in the mirror started to evolve.
She stood taller.
She trusted herself.
She stopped waiting for life to get easier and started creating the life she wanted.
What We Think, We Become
Now, when I look back at the woman I once was, I don’t feel shame - I feel deep compassion for her. She didn’t know what she was capable of yet. She didn’t realise she could change the narrative.
I see it so clearly now.
What we tell ourselves is what we live.
Our energy, our presence, our emotions, our habits - they all reflect our inner world. The thoughts we repeat become the reality we experience.
If you’ve ever felt stuck, like life keeps giving you the same struggles, I want you to ask yourself:
What story am I telling myself? And is it even mine?
Because when you start rewriting your thoughts, you start rewriting your life.
And let me tell you - the life you desire begins the moment you believe it’s possible.
The Light I Needed Became the Light I Give
This is why I love speaking about this, working with clients, and helping others on their journey. It lights me up to see that moment when courage is activated, when the belief in who they are comes back into their eyes. It’s a feeling that never gets old watching someone break free from the old narrative and step into the truth of their potential.
When I first started my own healing journey, I vowed to be the light I once needed for others. If I can help just one person a day become more self-aware, shift their beliefs, and step into their own confidence, then I know I am doing what I was meant to do.
That, to me, is everything. And it humbles me every single day...
So, I ask you - what story are you telling yourself? Because the moment you choose to change it, everything shifts. I invite you to take that first step and join me in the free Rewire Your Narrative: 7 Days to a New Mindset experience.
With big love & limitless belief in you, Renee Xx
